PUSHANG HOTEL
XIAMEN, CHINA
*Designed while at Layan
Overlooking an expansive bay, the Pushang Hotel is a luxurious escape from the highly urban lifestyle of Southern China. With over 180 rooms on offer and ample amenities like the conference center, Chinese and Western restaurants, spa, pool, retail podium, and private villas, the complex becomes an all inclusive experience. The building is designed to evoke solidity and echo the famous historic tulou earth buildings of this region. In its massing, the building consists of large monolithic forms punctuated for views and ventilation. The materials evoke the warmth of sandstone ochre hues and the touch of timber to give the sense of timelessness and groundedness. Surrounding these masses is a landscape of verdant gardens and peaceful waterscaping.
Multiple passive as well as active strategies are employed to minimize the complex’s energy demand. Passively, daylighting, shading, and natural ventilation incorporated to minimize demand. Active systems include PV arrays on the roof as well as high-efficiency HRV for ventilation.
